Gear I use, and things I recommend.

I get asked a lot about the things I've found make my life easier when working or exercising. Below is a set of things I've found work well for me.

Workstation

  • 14” MacBook Pro, M2 Max, 32GB RAM (2023)

I've used Macs on and off since 2009, and nearly always end up going with a refurbished device. This is no exception! I've found this is excellent device for day to day development (even if it requires some changes in my docker workflow!).

  • Logitech MX Master 3X

Despite the best intention of being a keyboard warrior - a good mouse makes everything better, and after updating to the MX Master 3X - I'm not going back. USB C charging, a long battery life and ability to switch between computers are all killer features.

  • Anker PowerConf S3

Taking conference calls with a headset gets tiresome, and early in the COVID pandemic and the PowerConf S3 is great for making calls more comfortable at home and can be taken on the road for calls while traveling.

  • Uplift L-Shaped Standing Desk

I enjoy having a standing desk to help change my posture, but oftentimes the physical surface area leaves something to be desired. I've found that this desk gives more than enough space and works great.

Running

  • Altra Lone Peak 6.0

I've run more than 6,000 miles in these shoes starting back with the Lone Peak 3.5s. The comfort, traction, and durability have made this one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever used, and my go to for anything on unpaved roads. I love these shoes so much that I use them for casual wear as well.

  • HOKA ONE ONE Rincon 3

As I have shifted more towards road running, I was looking for a shoe which would have more cushion for longer miles on flat road. I've logged 1,200+ miles in these shoes and they have served me well transitioning away from the steeps.

  • Naked Running Belt

I often carry a phone or a couple gels with me while running and found that the Naked running belt is the best of the best. It comfortably carries my phone way easier than an arm band and has spots for a few extra gels. When racing longer distances, the equipment loops in the back are great for carrying poles somewhere that isn't on a pack.

  • Salomon ADV Skin 12 Set

Salomon's ADV Skin series fits like a tshirt making them super comfortable for longer efforts. I use these during ultra races and longer adventures where I expect to carry more food/water.

Cycling

  • Specialized Allez

I use a pretty basic road bike with no frills. The specialized was a nice balance between having a 'real' road bike and not spending a ton of money before starting any cycling.

  • Garmin Edge 540

Looking at a bike computer for monitoring heart rate and getting maps upfront is convenient when trying to gauge effort and not get lost on weekend rides.
